Living markers · Tide · Clay
Plants and flowers as wayfinding—for interiors that breathe with tide and clay.
Three collections, each a study in place—salt air, raw rock, and warmth.
The shelf
Cairn began as a study of the horizon: where land meets sea, where stone meets salt, where the temporary meets the enduring. Our plants are not decoration; they are markers—of seasons passed, of rooms warmed, of the slow work of tending.
We work with a small collective of ceramicists who fire clay in wood kilns, then rub the surfaces with charcoal and stone dust to evoke the texture of tide-worn rock.
How we work
Every pot is thrown by hand in a converted stone workshop, then finished with a charcoal rub that deepens with age.
We favor plants that naturally grow in rocky, saline conditions—succulents, sea thrift, and hardy grasses—for homes with bright, indirect light.
Our care cards use a watermark system instead of schedules: water when the soil is dry an inch down, and let the plant find its own pace.
Plants travel in biodegradable moss and recycled paper, and we offset all emissions through rewilding projects on the coast.
“A cairn is not a pile of stones—it’s a promise that someone has been here. Our plants make that promise for your home.”Mara Ellison, Founder

No—our pots have drainage and room for growth. Wait at least a season before repotting.
Most Cairn plants prefer to dry out between waterings. Check the top inch of soil; if dry, water thoroughly. In winter, reduce frequency.
